Suddenly, consciousness sinks its icy grip into you and yanks you into the realm of wakefulness.

Disoriented, you rise to your feet. Put one in front of the other. Who were you with last night? Are they all with you? Do they still take breath? You can’t tell. Not yet, at least. Instead, you stumble into the next area, and perhaps you’re not alone, but there is one thing that you are innately aware of: something is wrong. So very, very wrong.

The sky has a faint discoloration to it, and if you peer too closely, you might notice how the air seems to be thrumming, pulsing with magic. You can almost taste it—and if you aren’t careful, may choke on it. It’s best to focus on the task at hand in front of you first.

Welcome, Sacrifices, to your weekly investigation!

We will be posting top-levels for searchable locations—one set at 6PM EST and another set at 7PM EST. Each location will contain evidence to find, though it's up to your efforts as to whether you find all of it. Please coordinate investigation groups on Discord, as we ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters. We will stop tagging each top-level two hours after it went up, i.e. at 8PM and 9PM EST, respectively. Don't worry if you don't find everything! Characters will get the chance to revisit locations tomorrow at trial.

At 9PM EST, an announcement will go up, confirming the victim(s). If you have any questions at any time, please let the mods know by pinging us on Discord!

After two hours, characters will find that their surroundings warp and ripple as a veil of magic closes in over each location, restoring it to normalcy. But the village itself is not normal; the crows squawk, the pyre flares and holds an eerie blue, and the church bell tolls. The stars shudder and fall from the sky until none are left, the moon snuffed out last. The monster presence in your mind goes between quiet and restless.

Happy Friday Dieday! A few things:

The crows can be heard, but not reached. Overseers are not available on Friday. The posters cannot be removed, vandals only receive more paper cuts. All investigation locations are cloaked in a veil of swirling magic; while this veil can be passed through painlessly, characters will find that locations look completely restored to normal after doing so, and will not be able to further investigate. That includes looking for bodies!

Characters will need to be responsible for holding onto evidence until trial, though they will not be able to tamper with it. Please use the sub toplevel to turn in evidence, unless your character ICly would withhold evidence, in which case you do not have to. See you all at trial!

[ another friday another bad time. marina finds herself here at the side rooms and just kind of frowns deeply at the thrumming of magic. she should be used to this by now. ]

Great, this nightmare.

[ at a glance, what does this side of the side rooms start off with? anything on the ground or at the entryway that seems More Off than the side rooms usually feel????? ]

[ Sorry there won't be any greetings from Anis beyond a nod to the other two. Is there anything different about the interior of the Gas Station compared to when she fell asleep last night? ]

[ kate shows up here and returns the nod. maybe through the doorway, if anis is already in there. i hope it's not on fire.

is anything obviously off about the outside of the gas station? is it on fire? ]

[nod to nod communication... lavi is here in his exorcist uniform, and his face is pale and still wrapped in bandages. he doesn't look great, but he's here!

he'll follow anis into the store, (this will be embarrassing if it turns out the gas station is on fire) looking toward the back corner where both doors are. anything there?]

[ rondo is here! he looks glad to see both marina and vin. he is still glowing very slightly under his bandages at his neck, a bright blue color that ebbs and fades by the moment, and is still walking notably slower than usual. but after what happened to ishtar earlier in the week, he's already vigilant of the side rooms, so! he's got his sword drawn, and puts himself sort of to the front of both girls. if he winces when he draws it and it lessens the bravado, well, listen. hurty. ]

Please stay close - I won't allow any harm to come to either of you.

[ anyway. reading the description was like MAZE HELL BAD so what are we looking at exactly? is there any sign of a struggle? anything that seems to lead in a certain direction upon entering? ]

anyways! she kind of gives rondo a Look and sidesteps so she's next to him rather than behind him, but she's also looking out for anything strange, any objects that seem out of place - that kind of thing. what's up side room... to rondo:]

[ the side rooms are kind of always Off, so the vibes when they walk in are bad. the air is stagnant and kind of moist in an unpleasant way. maybe slightly more wet than usual. tis moist in here.

but basically, they're walking into the labyrinth and they'll have to proceed further to get to one of the rooms. but for now, the only thing of note is something on the ground. ]

[ well, nothing is on fire! :)

the outside of the gas station is a mess, kate realizes, but two of them are inside now. there is no fire, but the gas pumps have seen better days. there is something at her feet at the door which lavi and anis somehow do not trip over.

the inside is also a mess..... there is some dark liquid on the floor, and as lavi comes in, he will instead slip up in it after dodging what was outside. the shelves are in disarray, but the two doors in the back are fine. ]

still. keeping his sword ready, if marina is looking to the ground, let's proceed. what do you mean by. moist. like does it have any smell? is it just wet? as we proceed into the labyrinth, is there anything on the walls/ceiling? ]

[ she's about to go see if he's okay, but there's something at her feet! so she will stop to look at the thing on her feet so she does not trip over it. what's the thing? ]

[STOP!!!! i rolled a 19 so he doesn't break any limbs i guess... he does hit his good knee when he comes down, so it matches the other bruised one.]

[he's just sitting in this dark liquid I GUESS. WAIT HOW BIG IS IT? IS HE SITTING IN LIKE A POOL or did he trip on a puddle]

[i hate moist and yet here we are. is it just the air itself, or does there seem to be any moisture on the walls or floor as they head in? marina's got whatever's on the floor under control, probably, so she'll join rondo in looking around as they go forward.]

[ there's no specific smell to it that any of you can put your finger on, but this place is sort of weird and incomprehensible anyway. no excess moisture on the walls, it is just kind of wet in the air. a bit damp, if you will. like walking into a building with an indoor pool.

marina can look at the ground, there is something dark along the floor, starting from the entrance and leading into the rest of the side rooms.

nothing on the walls/ceiling this time.

while they move forward, they will hear the gentle lapping of water. ]

[ dark. great. she will crouch down and get a closer look and see if it has a smell if she kind of wafts it with her hand. does it smell like blood? gasoline? something worse?

is it leading in a line (crooked or smooth?) or is it spotty like prints or blobs? ]

[ water! cool. okay. neat.

rondo will walk carefully to avoid stepping in any of the Liquid Stuff, but otherwise, he will start to make his way towards the water sound? where's it coming from....]

[ a bunch of the shelving has been knocked over in different directions. there are grooves in various places on the floor and through the shelves. merchandise is scattered in all directions, but a box of candy is lying haphazardly away from the mess.

lavi is sitting in liquid that smells a bit chemically and sorta like burnt toast. it's viscous, very slippery, but also stains anything it touches on him. there is a bunch of it on the ground, and in it are some smeared prints.

kate has obtained a slightly curved blade on a long pole! it's pretty big and quite heavy. ]

[she glances towards the trail that marina's looking at, just briefly to see where it's headed - is it in the same direction as the sound of the water? if it is, she'll follow rondo, but if not, she'll start in the direction that the trail leads.

either way, as she goes:]
