Suddenly, consciousness sinks its icy grip into you and yanks you into the realm of wakefulness.

Disoriented, you rise to your feet. Put one in front of the other. Who were you with last night? Are they all with you? Do they still take breath? You can’t tell. Not yet, at least. Instead, you stumble into the next area, and perhaps you’re not alone, but there is one thing that you are innately aware of: something is wrong. So very, very wrong.

The sky has a faint discoloration to it, and if you peer too closely, you might notice how the air seems to be thrumming, pulsing with magic. You can almost taste it—and if you aren’t careful, may choke on it. It’s best to focus on the task at hand in front of you first.

Welcome, Sacrifices, to your weekly investigation!

We will be posting top-levels for searchable locations—one set at 6PM EST and another set at 7PM EST. Each location will contain evidence to find, though it's up to your efforts as to whether you find all of it. Please coordinate investigation groups on Discord, as we ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters. We will stop tagging each top-level two hours after it went up, i.e. at 8PM and 9PM EST, respectively. Don't worry if you don't find everything! Characters will get the chance to revisit locations tomorrow at trial.

At 9PM EST, an announcement will go up, confirming the victim(s). If you have any questions at any time, please let the mods know by pinging us on Discord!

After two hours, characters will find that their surroundings warp and ripple as a veil of magic closes in over each location, restoring it to normalcy. But the village itself is not normal; the crows squawk, the pyre flares and holds an eerie blue, and the church bell tolls. The stars shudder and fall from the sky until none are left, the moon snuffed out last. The monster presence in your mind goes between quiet and restless.

Happy Friday Dieday! A few things:

The crows can be heard, but not reached. Overseers are not available on Friday. The posters cannot be removed, vandals only receive more paper cuts. All investigation locations are cloaked in a veil of swirling magic; while this veil can be passed through painlessly, characters will find that locations look completely restored to normal after doing so, and will not be able to further investigate. That includes looking for bodies!

Characters will need to be responsible for holding onto evidence until trial, though they will not be able to tamper with it. Please use the sub toplevel to turn in evidence, unless your character ICly would withhold evidence, in which case you do not have to. See you all at trial!

[hello cemetery... wanders towards laudna, though she probably holds out a hand for mathis as they're walking in the direction of it. what stands out!!]

hi! he's relieved to see both of them, taking karlach's hand.

i can tell you one thing that stands out and it's that mathis is glittering. like, literally. like covered in glitter. sorry about it.]

[ there are little stars twinkling above her head because people are alive, but they dim because.... they're about to be looking at murder evidence. ]

It's a relief to see you two.

[ why ARE we still alive.... someone take us out... hope the murderer set a trap i can die in.... wink wink..... nudge....

anyway, is there anything that stands out immediately? if not, she will look at the fire to see if there isn't anything burning in it. ]

[ she just gives them both a little nod...

she'll look at the benches around the pyre first, then! see if any of them are moved or broken or have anything on them. ]

[ the thing that stands out most is that mathis is sooooo sparkly guys. there's no giant eyegrabbing fire or anything otherwise though.

from the direction laudna is walking, as she approaches the cemetery, she'll see something in the dirt. ]

[she looks back and sees mathis take karlach's hand, and she stares at them for a long moment. but it seems like she's not in the mood for a friendly greeting this morning. she turns away from them and walks briskly ahead, dark lines of thoughts coming off her head, fiddling with her hands.

what's that she sees in the dirt, then?]

[ why are you still alive.... why are we here? just to suffer? anyway imagine if the stuff around the pyre was on fire, wouldn't that be crazy



it's not. it's kinda funny that this is the one location that doesn't get set on fire when it's right there i just had to mention it

anyway the whole lot of them can notice that it looks like the place is a mess. it looks like a fight broke out here, with plenty of things damaged and tossed around. they'll have to step carefully around some of the debris and watch out for the dirt that got kicked around.

when lavi heads to the library, he'll notice that it looks like a bunch of the books have fallen out of the shelves, thrown down onto the floor

when robin looks over, she won't be able to see anything immediately in the fire, though the amount of chaos thrown around will make it hard for her to get close and tell immediately. as she walks through, her foot will nudge against something metal.

around the benches, ashlyn will notice that they're definitely thrown around and disheveled from their usual seating arrangement. looking closely, they also seem to be damaged ]

karlach gives them both a little smile, but doesn't say much. even if she looks confused by laudna just staring at them? she's going to look up and down the gravestones, checking each... aisle? i guess that's what you'd call them.]

he gives karlach a worried little glance after that, but says nothing aloud, squeezing her hand before he lets go of it to help cover the rows between tombstones. easier to cover ground like this.]

Lavi will carefully squat down and look at the books. are they all books from the scawwy library? he was a baby boy just this week... reading from this library.... so he'd recognize them...

are any of them damaged or stained beyond Dirt]

robin will carefully walk around the debris, not wanting to disturb or damage anything, but she will stop and look down at this something metal.

what is it? ]

[ are there drag marks in the dirt to tell if the benches were just pushed, or have they clearly been lifted up and thrown? also looking at the damage on them... does it all look like blunt smash-y damage? or are there, like, cuts or slashes in the wood? ]

[ the ground is disrupted some, though not all the way to the haunted house. there's something mixed into the disturbed dirt as well, dark and wet.

karlach can go check between the aisles of the tombstones! it's eerie and quiet here, and she'll notice something an off-white by one of the headstones.

mathis goes his own way, and will see that the general area, not so deep into the rows of tombstones, is looking like it's seen some Activity. ]

[ lavi will be able to remember from his itty bitty baby mind palace that all the books are from the library yes! they don't seem to be damaged or stained, just fallen to the ground.

the metal piece is rather large and flat. does robin play sports? does she support the penacony wnba?

there's no marks in the dirt to say that the benches were intentionally pushed no! rather they were knocked over from their original arrangement or barreled into. there seem to be a few slash marks in the wood ]

[so just making sure, the disruption is like, between the haunted house and the cemetery?

if she just looks closely at the dirt, can she get a sense of what it is? is the disturbed dirt in a particular shape? if not, she'll touch it to see if anything comes away in her hands - if it's blood or not.]

[a little shrug at mathis, but. she'll leave laudna to it for now, unless a zombie is about to pop up and munch on her from the grave.

she goes to look at the headstone with the off-white thing near it. can she tell what it is?]

[what kind of Activity is he picking up on here-- is there just general disarray, or can he find any marks or prints that stand out here? feet, other marks on the ground or on the tombstones, etc; he's careful to watch where he steps so as not to disturb anything.]
