Suddenly, consciousness sinks its icy grip into you and yanks you into the realm of wakefulness.

Disoriented, you rise to your feet. Put one in front of the other. Who were you with last night? Are they all with you? Do they still take breath? You can’t tell. Not yet, at least. Instead, you stumble into the next area, and perhaps you’re not alone, but there is one thing that you are innately aware of: something is wrong. So very, very wrong.

The sky has a faint discoloration to it, and if you peer too closely, you might notice how the air seems to be thrumming, pulsing with magic. You can almost taste it—and if you aren’t careful, may choke on it. It’s best to focus on the task at hand in front of you first.

Welcome, Sacrifices, to your weekly investigation!

We will be posting top-levels for searchable locations—one set at 6PM EST and another set at 7PM EST. Each location will contain evidence to find, though it's up to your efforts as to whether you find all of it. Please coordinate investigation groups on Discord, as we ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters. We will stop tagging each top-level two hours after it went up, i.e. at 8PM and 9PM EST, respectively. Don't worry if you don't find everything! Characters will get the chance to revisit locations tomorrow at trial.

At 9PM EST, an announcement will go up, confirming the victim(s). If you have any questions at any time, please let the mods know by pinging us on Discord!

After two hours, characters will find that their surroundings warp and ripple as a veil of magic closes in over each location, restoring it to normalcy. But the village itself is not normal; the crows squawk, the pyre flares and holds an eerie blue, and the church bell tolls. The stars shudder and fall from the sky until none are left, the moon snuffed out last. The monster presence in your mind goes between quiet and restless.

Happy Friday Dieday! A few things:

The crows can be heard, but not reached. Overseers are not available on Friday. The posters cannot be removed, vandals only receive more paper cuts. All investigation locations are cloaked in a veil of swirling magic; while this veil can be passed through painlessly, characters will find that locations look completely restored to normal after doing so, and will not be able to further investigate. That includes looking for bodies!

Characters will need to be responsible for holding onto evidence until trial, though they will not be able to tamper with it. Please use the sub toplevel to turn in evidence, unless your character ICly would withhold evidence, in which case you do not have to. See you all at trial!

Anyways she's here and pulling a leaf from her hair, while yawning. What do we have here? Any messages, blood trails, blools, or foot prints on the ground? ]

[ back at it again at the krispy kreme, alfyn's got his axe out in case something decides it wants to try and eat them like in the side rooms last week for that invest group.

is the fire its normal color? is anything besides the pyre on fire? i will leave any sniffing to the furry with the superior nose. ]

[ dw starting off strong with me logged out... izutsumi looks around, but she is gonna start by sniffing the air for anything out of place from the obvious fire and smoke scents. she's stayed here constant nights now so she'll give some effort. unless you know the whole dang place is on fire. ]

I'd be surprised if it wasn't three.

[ said a little scratchy and in a huff but it's fine, she will also drop down to a crouch to have a more leveled view of the ground for anything else. ]

[ looks at the description. "a botanist’s garden on a cliff-face with no exit except to climb the stone railing and narrowly shimmy along the edge of the building to a broken window."

no i'm going to be mean and put you guys inside the building to start. get through that window. there's no blood here. ]

no, you're safe! only the normal pyre, which is still the normal warm hues that you'd expect.

that said izutsumi might be able to catch the scent of some iron in the air? a quick glance at the ground will also reveal that some dirt's been kicked around... ]

[Looks at Kanda's injuries. :) Okay sure we can do that!

He's certainly stubborn enough to do it, so that's fair; I so desperately wish he would talk but Anis just gets a glance and a nod before he leads the way over to the window. Is there anything about it that stands out? Any noticeably broken glass that's different from before, or anything visibly off about the garden that they can spot as they hop out onto the building edge? If I roll badly can I fall and die? Pretty please?]

[ right zia's dead now so there's no reason for there to be MORE FIRE. looking at you, rest of the living. while she's sniffing and low to the ground, he's going to check the bench and crate seating around the pyre to see if anything's been left behind or if anything is amiss. is there still the usual five benches and (mumbles amount of) crates? any damages or evidence? ]

[ it's okay! she's expecting the normal amount of kanda conversation from him. kanversation? she frowns as she sees they have to climb out of the window, but she'll keep her concerns to herself as she gives him a nod. lead the way you injured cat!

she'll climb out of the window and see if she can spot anything from there while she waits for kanda to fall and die continue forward. ]

[ the window doesn't look any noticeably different or more broken than usual. there is nothing immediately obvious from they're position, as they must get closer

[ or it could be a different kind of iron smell in this game of murder.... she scratches a little at her throat with one hand, before she's focusing on that kicked up dirt. is it closer to the fire or a bit ways out? is it just in one general area or does it have some kind of weird pathing? like someone kicking up a fuss, or kicking at the dirt all sasuke emo like "tch."

which may as well to see if there are any marks on the ground, whether it be kicked up prints (why would you curse us with more footprints) or some kind of dragging marks. she'll go back to that iron scent in a second. ]

anyway, when kanda gets through the window, he gets really cut up, and also some of the stone beneath his feet immediately crumbles beneath him.

since anis is behind him she misses all of these things because kanda took it for her. rip. ]

Also I guess does he. Notice anything useful as this happens. Did someone hastily scribble "assassin" on the side of the building or something? Is there anything down in the garden below them (assuming they're over the garden and not just like, hovering over a void) to indicate that someone was here... this is me pretending to be useful instead of just collecting injuries]

where izutsumi it, the dirt looks disturbed and kicked up in a trail by the fire, but heading away from it. there's two sets of what might've been prints...? however not the type that you can get footprint readings from, we refuse to give you feet. ]

he's going to use his gloved right hand to try and pick up the one that's moving. you don't touch weird things that could maybe attack you without some kind of protection. ]

[ he can catch himself if he can, or be saved by anis, butthe garden is, in fact, down there, so if he hits the ground it'll be hurty. there's nothing on the side of the building. it is still kind of difficult to see what exactly went on down there, but from this vantage point kanda can at least see that some spots in the garden look more scuffed than others.

i assume anis is still on the railing. do your best... ]

[I just want everyone to know I resisted the urge to roll for fall damage purely because it would be rude to make Anis do all the walking around and investigating. I'm a SAINT.

But I will say that in taking her hand and hauling himself back up he's reopening his Aqua wound. Get fucked Kanda.]

Down there. [Does she need to hop over the crumbled spot? If so he'll be 2% nice and help her get across. Incredible. But otherwise we can probably...? Make our way down...? I think?]
