Week 1
investigation
Suddenly, consciousness sinks its icy grip into you and yanks you into the realm of wakefulness.
Disoriented, you rise to your feet. Put one in front of the other. Who were you with last night? Are they all with you? Do they still take breath? You can’t tell. Not yet, at least. Instead, you stumble into the next area, and perhaps you’re not alone, but there is one thing that you are innately aware of: something is wrong. So very, very wrong.
The sky has a faint discoloration to it, and if you peer too closely, you might notice how the air seems to be thrumming, pulsing with magic. You can almost taste it—and if you aren’t careful, may choke on it. It’s best to focus on the task at hand in front of you first.

Welcome, Sacrifices, to your weekly investigation!
We will be posting top-levels for searchable locations—one set at 6PM EST and another set at 7PM EST. Each location will contain evidence to find, though it's up to your efforts as to whether you find all of it. Please coordinate investigation groups on Discord, as we ask that group threads consist of no more than 2-3 characters. We will stop tagging each top-level two hours after it went up, i.e. at 8PM and 9PM EST, respectively. Don't worry if you don't find everything! Characters will get the chance to revisit locations tomorrow at trial.
At 9PM EST, an announcement will go up, confirming the victim(s). If you have any questions at any time, please let the mods know by pinging us on Discord!

RANCH (FIELD)
no subject
should we say hello to dani on the way out? we love you dani. ]
no subject
[Snooping time! First of all please tell me the place isn't on fire. Let's take a look at the vegetable fields, see if someone has ruined the one good source of food we have]
no subject
[asa gives dani the dog a suspicious look. the dog knows what she has done. asa is not saying hi to her. also, can they spot the ranch group from over here, by the way?
either way, asa will give the fields are cursory look from where's she's still standing by the fence. at a glance, is there anything visibly off in any of the three sections? or maybe anything on the path heading into the field, or the one connecting it to the barn?]
no subject
who knows if you can see the other ranch group from here! they're busy and so are you! focus on the field before you get absolutely destroyed by a cow
asa might be able to tell that some of the dirt has been disturbed, some markings in it, but another stressed out sheep is heading straight for her ]
no subject
Erin-dono! Are you alright?!
[ he'll help her up if she's close
also he could totally take this cow if he wanted to! he has the naginata with him! it could be hunting season! but he does not want to scare the animals even more, so he'll try to like. stick to the vegetable fields.
unfortunately this means he'll head right on in with no care for the disturbances in the dirt because he's never been on an investigation in his life and doesn't know what to do here. is the vegetable garden okay! ]
no subject
First thought she had is that this better not have left bruises anywhere on her because she doesn't want to explain in the trial how she got them. 'I was ambushed by a sheep' is not very dignified]
Only thing real hurt here is my pride!
[Thanks for the help, Iwatooshi, at least she's grateful he helps her stand up.
Why are the sheep so aggressive today, though? Any sign what's gotten them rowdy today?]
no subject
W-Wait, Iwatooshi!
[DON'T GO... she only has one arm she can't wrangle this sheep. help. i guess she can get a very CLOSE and PERSONAL look at the fucking dirt when she tries to dodge the sheep and immediately trips and eats shit with that nat 1!!
what does that disturbed patch of dirt look like? can she catch a glimpse with her new vantage point before she's murdered by this sheep? thanks.]

erin will have to look around and notice that a lot of the fencing seems to be broken, though. a lot of it is broken and damaged in various ways, and some of the milk buckets have been knocked over. it's chaos out here. to explore further please roll for sheep damage. shamage.
asa, now after having a gourmet taste of le dirt, will be able to see that it looks like there's paw prints as well as other deep, straight line indents in the dirt that interrupt, fall around, and overlap against the paw prints ]
no subject
but more importantly!!! can he grab the thing or do we have a chase scene on our hands?! he'll chase this cow if he has to!! ]
no subject
But, for the record, Erin's plan is to check how the fence got broken. From inside, sign animals stampeded through it? Or from the outside, sign something -- like a person with murdery intentions -- broke the fence.
Oh well, shamage comes first!]
no subject
can she get a sense of what kind of paw prints these are? like. cat paw vs dog paw, or something else entirely?
also, hm. she crawls over to get a better sense of what those lines are. her pride is dead and gone and it's only like 8AM.
does it look like someone dragged a rake through the paw prints? or are there fewer lines than that...? more lines...? or when you say fall around, do you mean the line circles completely around the paw prints? trying very hard to picture this in our written hobby.
if it's not a rake, do the lines look more like they were caused by some kind of rope? like a lasso or snare type situation, maybe?]
no subject
erin keeps getting bodied by more of these fluffy, fluffy sheep. oh no! they just keep barging against her, getting her all wooly and static-y. as she gets closer, she'll be able to see that the fence that leads to where the animals are kept seems to bee broken—knocked over, as if suffering a heavy impact from the outside and the gate swung open. other fences are also damaged, though less clear how from a faraway glance
for asa: they look like a paw from a furry friend, so definitely not a sheep or a cow. the lines look like lines at first glance, she doesn't have much to compare it to! there's a few drag marks but they look more like individual indents, like something was picked up and plunged repeatedly. the lines are sporadic and sometimes intersect with the paws but sometimes they don't ]
no subject
damn maybe he should see about scaring the sheep... erin is suffering. but first, what's draped on this cow! he'll grab it and take a look before heading back toward the garden. ]
no subject
i wont obviously but oh well
Takes about a minute for her to be in condition to keep investigating because, you know, farm animals can pack a punch sometimes.
Was anything left by whatever broke the fence with its heavy impact? Pieces...deformation from a heavy blunt impact...blood if what impacted was someone's corpse...]
no subject
just to double check, she can't tell if these prints came from a canine or a feline? she's owned a cat and pickles is here, so she can probably get a sense... unless we are following mg logic and there's no distinction here.
are the lines thin? wide? do they stop here, or are there more lines and paw prints further down the path? if not, are the paws facing any particular direction? like maybe towards one of the three sections, or perhaps the barn.
she'll carefully get up so she can see more shit, i guess.
are both the sheep and the heifer pens broken, by the way?]
no subject
there's no blood on the animal fence, but the wood itself is splintered and broken. that said, all the pieces of the fence can be accounted for visually!
as for asa looking, it's probably hard to distinguish between cat or dog without either of them there! suffer in uncertainty. :) the lines are wide but not thick. the pawprints seem to be heading in the direction of the beach, and the lines follow after it.
the animal pens have one main gate, which is broken! when asa gets up, she might notice something dark fluttering in the wind, being buffeted left and right by all the chaos of the animals running around ]
no subject
god look at you all eating shit. iwatooshi will help the girls up?? stop this. does it look like any of the animals are holding onto anything else? does he have to chase more farm animals? ]
no subject
So, let's see. Anything else to investigate in the fields where the sheep usually are? What do we got to see, if anything?]
no subject
looks at dice maiden. she's going to try going after the Dark Fluttering Something in the midst of the chaos, but will she succeed? you tell me.]
no subject
the other fences also look broken though, like they were crashed through. further into the sheep field, erin might be able to make out some splotches of red that stand out against the ground
the depth is deep in the ground, but the lines are skinny and long like a pencil! that is what they are. asa can get that dark fluttering something but it's only after a cow headbutts her in the stomach i guess. what the fuck these rolls ]
no subject
no subject
Since Erin isn't currently experiencing how it feels to be ran over by sheep, she comes closer to the splotches of red. Blood, no doubt? Probably? Is there anything corpse-shaped on top of it? Is it like splatter or like something bleeding fell here?]
no subject
for the sake of time, i'll say she gets up after a moment while still clutching the thing. can she tell what it is, or is that a tomorrow thing?
once she's back on her feet, she will come closer to the animal pens. is there anything visible inside the cow field? how are the milk bucket, brush and bell looking, too? she will take a look at all three on her way to the cow field. brush clean? bucket empty? nothing hiding inside the bell?]
no subject
the cow begins to meander toward the vegetable field
for what erin is looking at: is it blood? there's little splotches of red. not enough to be body-shaped, but leading toward the feeding troughs.
she can tell what it is at first glance! it looks like a dark feather. for the rest of her search, the milk buckets are all knocked over and everything is in disarray, but the brush is clean and nothing is hidden inside the bell or the bucket. ]
